    Functions and Features:

    The OptiX OSN 7500 intelligent optical switching system (the OptiX OSN 7500 for short) is the next-generation intelligent optical core switching (OCS) equipment and is developed by Huawei on the basis of the current situation and development trend of the metropolitan area network (MAN).

    The OptiX OSN 7500 is mainly used as a service scheduling node at the metropolitan backbone layer. That is, it functions as optical core switching equipment (OCS). As an intelligent optical transmission platform and core optical transmission system, the OptiX OSN 7500 is located at the metropolitan backbone layer to schedule and transmit services of different types and granularities.

    The OptiX OSN 7500 is of a "universal switch" architecture. That is, the OptiX OSN 7500 can be used in packet mode or in TDM mode. When used with the other equipment of Huawei, the OptiX OSN 7500 supports various networking applications, such as the pure packet mode application, hybrid networking application (overlay networking of the packet mode and TDM mode), and pure TDM mode application. By using a proper networking solution, the data service and conventional SDH service can be processed in the optimal manner.

    In TDM mode, the OptiX OSN 7500 supports large cross-connect capacities, that is, 360 Gbit/s higher-order cross-connections and 40 Gbit/s lower-order cross-connections. In packet mode, the OptiX OSN 7500 supports 160 Gbit/s packet switching capabilities.

    In packet mode, the OptiX OSN 7500 supports the following technologies:

    • Multi-Protocol Label Switched-Transport Profile (MPLS-TP)
    • Multi-Protocol Label Switch (MPLS)
    • ETH PWE3
    • TDM PWE3
    • ATM PWE3

    In TDM mode, the OptiX OSN 7500 supports the following technologies:

    • Synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH)
    • Plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH)
    • Ethernet
    • Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)
    • Storage area network (SAN)/Video
    • Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)
    • Digital data network (DDN)
    • Microwave

      To address 3G mobile backhauling requirements, Huawei's equipment provides complete transmission solutions in the packet domain, converging and grooming services at the core layer of a wireless network.
    • Built-In WDM/Microwave, Flexible Networking
      The OptiX OSN equipment uses the built-in WDM technology to transmit several wavelengths over one optical fiber. In this manner, the OptiX OSN equipment can be interconnected with the WDM equipment. The OptiX OSN equipment supports the radio technologies to transmit the conventional SDH service over radio. In this manner, the radio equipment can be used as a substitute to access the SDH service.

    Board Software

    The board software runs on each board and it manages, monitors and controls the operation of the board.

    It receives the command issued from the NE software and reports the board status to the NE software through performance events and alarm.

    The specific functions include:

    • Alarm management
    • Performance management
    • Configuration management
    • Communication management

    It directly controls the functional circuits in corresponding boards and implements ITU-T compliant specific functions of the NE.

    Service Types

    The OptiX OSN equipment can process the following Ethernet services, ATM services, IMA services, ATM/IMA (E1) services and CES services in packet mode.
